Annandale Artist Residency (AAR)

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

JUNE 2025 RESIDENCY

Deadline to Apply: Jan. 24 at 5:00 p.m.

Residency Dates:  Wed. May 28 - Tues. Jun. 24, 2025

Eligibility:

Annandale Artist Residency (AAR) is seeking one Canadian, mid-career artist to attend the residency in Prince Edward Island from Wed. May 28 - Tues. Jun. 24, 2025. We are only selecting one artist at this time to fill this spot, but will be using Calls for Submission to fill vacancies going forward as needed. The successful candidate will be attending with three other artists whom are already confirmed.

We ask that all applicants have an up-to-date driver’s license. AAR is quite remote, and driving is imperative for food, supplies, etc. The closest town is Souris, a 20-minute drive, which will have all the essentials available. A car is provided to residents to share while in attendance.

Please only apply if you can attend the full residency dates.

Please note AAR’s ventilation system consists of opening windows. AAR is currently best suited for practices that don’t utilize toxic materials, or the use of power tools. AAR is housed in a renovated historic home consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sunroom, kitchen, and two large studio spaces that can be split between three or four artists. The studio spaces are shared, open-concept spaces, plus a bonus shared sunroom.

Costs:

AAR does not charge an attendance fee, but successful participants will have to cover costs associated with their travel, supplies, meals, etc. AAR will provide a confirmation letter artists may use to apply for grants to cover these costs. The AAR house is stocked with the essentials, including bed linens, towels, kitchen essentials, etc.

We ask that residents provide a $500 post-dated cheque as a security deposit, which will only be cashed in case of damage to the vehicle or residency property.

For residents using the AAR van, we asked for a non-refundable fee of $300 to cover insurance and a deep clean at the end of the season. Fuel for the van is the responsibility of the residents.

Expectations:

This is a self-directed residency for artists to use however they see fit. We ask all attending artists to leave/donate one small artwork/drawing/sketch to be added to our growing AAR collection. As a way to connect with PEI arts and local communities, an Open House will be scheduled the last week of each residency. We ask that each resident speak briefly about their work — light libations will also be served!

Most importantly, we hope each cohort of artists have the opportunity to enjoy the many beaches, trails, and sunsets that PEI has to offer! An abundance of bug spray is recommended.
