MISSION, VISION + VALUES
Mission
Annandale Arts Residency (AAR) champions practices of pioneering, mid-career Canadian artists by providing the time, resources, and space necessary to cultivate new art and ideas in the idyllic setting of Annandale, Prince Edward Island.
Please note our program is under review to expand our community engagement activities.
DEFINITIONS
AAR focuses its support on mid-career artists. For clarity we offer this definition: an artist who has been working consecutively for at least 8 years outside of their graduate degrees, or an equivalent of, at least, 8 years producing and exhibiting an independent body of work.
VISION STATEMENTS
Annandale Arts Residency imagines a thriving arts community, bolstered by innovative, inclusive residency centres. AAR honours ground-breaking artistic practices with this fully-funded residency opportunity.
By pairing large ideas and ambitious projects with the regional and vibrant PEI locale, we aim to create rare and valuable opportunities for production and collaboration.
VALUE STATEMENTS
Burgeoning and Ambitious
AAR aims to be an exceptional, grass-roots support organization for mid-career artists creating new work in Canada.
Excellent But Experimental
AAR recognizes that excellence in arts, writing, and curation comes from experimentation — trial and error are welcomed and seen as platforms which foster ingenuity and growth. AAR expects no project plans or particular outcomes from any participant; the artist’s creativity should direct the end result.
Enrichment through Exploration
The distinct strength of Annandale is its locale. We encourage immersion in, and exploration of, the village and PEI. The Island and AAR offer a holistic experience and encourage flexibility between professional and personal goals while visiting.
Time and Family
Focusing on mid-career artists, AAR acknowledges the importance of timely notification to plan for a residency stay. In doing so, AAR selects incoming residents one to two years in advance. As a family-driven organization, AAR can also provide lodging for family members as requested by incoming participants.
